As voice becomes the dominant user interface for home automation systems, there is a great opportunity to leverage that speech to identify the user, personalize their experience, and authenticate them seamlessly for heightened levels of access or to make on device purchases.

DNA leverages the speech commands of Smart Home systems to identify which member of the household is speaking. This allows the implementation of permissions-based controls as well as personalization. When the user says “play my party mix” it is important to understand who is making the request!

Background leverages the speech commands to authenticate the user for appropriate security for certain transaction types. From Smart TVs to Smart Appliances, Background provides authentication that the user has specific levels of access and can perform certain commands. This allows for consumers to know that the only people controlling the devices in their homes or placing orders are those who should.

Both Background and DNA can create models based off of what is being spoken to the devices. When enough speech has been recorded to make a model, a notification of enrollment can be emailed to the account owner who can grant the correct levels of permissions.
